Obituary: GEORGIA ELIZABETH PHELPS CASHA

Rocky Point, NC – Georgia Elizabeth Phelps Casha, 86, affectionately known as “Lib,” went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 6, 2020. She was born October 18, 1933 in New Hanover County to the late Riley Austin and Nora Ellen DeBose Phelps. She is also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, John Aloysius Casha Jr.; brother, William Riley Phelps and wife Viola; sister, Shirley Louise Phelps Holden and husband, Harold; and her sister-in-law, Rosemary Casha Fouts. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Casha; sons, Forrest Casha, Keith Casha and wife Angie; grandchildren, Aaron and Gracelynn; brother-in-law Bill Fouts and numerous nephews, nieces and their children.

Elizabeth was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. Her belief that “God is Love” led her to share God’s Love in all that she did, and Lib was an inspiration to all who encountered her.  Some of Lib’s greatest joys in life were serving the Lord, sewing, baking, spending time with family and friends, planting flowers, playing in parks and sandboxes with her grandson and cooking and baking with her granddaughter.

Elizabeth was a faithful member of Burgaw Baptist Church for over 65 years; who served God as a Sunday School teacher, Choir Worship and Fellowship Team member, and a member of the WMU. She also served the community of Graham, NC, through several service projects with “Friend on Missions” at First Baptist Church.

During her lifetime, Elizabeth was a graduate of New Hanover High School; previously worked as a postal worker in Rocky Point post office; served on the PTA board of Pender County as Vice-President; and worked for Pender Academy in their cafeteria and as a school van driver. She was a Master; basket weaver, cake baker and quilter. Her wisdom, discernment and most of all her grace will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Thank you to all doctors, nurses and healthcare workers who worked to improve Lib’s health this past year.  A special thank you to Cathy Phelps, Lib’s niece, who opened her home and provided loving care to Lib during the last 10 months.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Department at Burgaw Baptist Church, 110 E Bridgers St, Burgaw, NC 28425 or any charity of your choice.

Due to concerns of Covid-19, Graveside services will be held 6/10/20, 10:30 am, Wednesday morning, at Riley’s Creek Cemetery, Clarks Landing Loop Road in Rocky Point, NC
